Tithing as Surrendering the Lower Self to the Higher Self

The True Meaning of Tithing: A Spiritual Revelation Beyond Money

For generations, tithing has been taught primarily as giving a tenth of one’s income to a religious institution. While this has its place in tradition, a deeper, more spiritual understanding reveals that true tithing is not just financial — it’s mental, emotional, and spiritual alignment with the Higher Self.

Tithing the Left to the Right

In mystical and metaphysical teachings, the left side of the mind symbolizes logic, reasoning, control, and ego. The right side represents intuition, inspiration, faith, and divine wisdom.

When people speak of “tithing the left side to the right side,” they are expressing a powerful inner truth:

You give your limited, human thoughts (left) to the divine, infinite mind of your Higher Self (right).

This form of tithing is not about money — it’s about letting go of your need to control and surrendering to the divine guidance already within you.

The Abrahamic Revelation

Abraham’s journey up the mountain with Isaac (Genesis 22) is often viewed as a test of obedience. But spiritually, it reveals something deeper:

  • Abraham spoke in faith before he saw the provision.

  • He said, “God himself will provide the lamb” — and he imagined that reality.

  • His inner world aligned with faith, and then the ram appeared.

That is a tithe of the mind — a sacrifice of fear, control, and uncertainty, replaced by total faith in the God within.

Hagar, Ishmael, and the Hidden Well

In Genesis 21, Hagar and Ishmael were cast out into the wilderness. When all seemed lost, the Bible says:

“Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water.”

The well was always there. She just couldn’t see it until her spiritual eyes were opened by faith.

This teaches us that until we surrender (tithe) our lower thinking to divine consciousness, we may not see the answers right in front of us.

Jesus on the True Tithe

Jesus said to the Pharisees:

“You tithe mint and dill and cumin, but neglect justice, mercy, and faith.”
(Matthew 23:23)

In other words, they gave externally but withheld internally.

True tithing is about giving the first and best part of your consciousness — your time, attention, imagination, thoughts, and desires — to God.

Conclusion: The Real Tithe Is Your Mind

Tithing isn’t only about money. It’s about:

  • Surrendering logic to faith

  • Giving your ego to divine guidance

  • Letting go of control to trust in the unseen

  • Living from your right side — the mind of Christ, the Higher Self

As Paul writes in Romans 12:1–2:

“Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice… be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

That is the true tithe: a living sacrifice of your thoughts to God. When you give your inner world to Spirit, your outer world transforms.
